During the first lockdown, the Silksworth all-weather track became a hive of activity for athletes from around the North East and beyond to ensure their training did not go amiss.
They made their way to Silksworth as all other tracks in the region were closed due to Covid-19.

This 5K is an Established Road Race in The North East of the UK.
Open to Runners of All Abilities, Where Runners Often Run For Their Favourite Charities. Held in July its a Good Warm Up Race For Runners Competing in the Great North Run in September.

Prospective members of all abilities are welcome to join Sunderland Harriers from the age of nine years-old. The club provides coaching, facilities and opportunities for all members to participate in athletics and improve their performance.
As long as there are athletes there is a need for qualified people to coach them.
Coaches at Sunderland Harriers are all dedicated volunteers, many having come through the competitive athletics ranks, some others finding a niche having accompanied their own children to the club.
All Coaches are trained and licenced by England Athletics at the various levels of expertise and responsibility. To strengthen our Coaching arm, Sunderland Harriers can assist you to obtain coaching qualifications in your chosen discipline to your ideal level and support you in your coaching experience.
