We are delighted to invite you to join us for the highly anticipated Penshaw Hill Race, hosted by the Sunderland Harriers. This exhilarating event will take you on a breathtaking journey around the picturesque Penshaw Monument, a local beauty spot that boasts some of the most stunning views in the region.

On the 29th of May, we'll gather at the foot of Penshaw Monument to take on this challenging and exciting course. The race will test your limits as you run through scenic trails, wooded areas, and open fields. And as you climb the steep hill towards the monument, the stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside will leave you in awe.

The Penshaw Hill Race promises to be a thrilling event, with runners of all levels coming together to compete in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a first-time racer, this is a fantastic opportunity to test your skills, push yourself to the limit, and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way.

Sunderland Harriers, wish to extend sincerest thanks to the National Trust for granting us permission to hold the Penshaw Hill Race at the beautiful Penshaw Monument. This event is a highlight on our calendar and is made possible by the generosity and support of Les Arnott (Vice - Chair) and organizations such as North East Vending Ltd. and Start Fitness.

General Information

  • Registration on the day will be a the foot of the monument.
  • The course is north of Chester Road, opposite Herrington Country Park.
  • Date – Wednesday, 29th May 2024.
  • Race Start – 19.15 hrs.
  • Closing date for entries – Sunday 26th May 2024.
  • Entry fees £8, Unattached £10.
  • Late entries on the day additional £2 (CASH ONLY).

PLEASE NOTE

YOUR SAFETY IS IMPORTANT
  • FIRST AID - Medical assistance will be stationed at the start/finish area and will provide medical help on route should you need it. If you are unable to finish, try to walk to the first aid post at the finish of the race or signal you need help to the marshals out on the course.
  • PLEASE ENSURE the medical information requested on the reverse of your number is correctly completed.

Race Day Information

  • Car Parking is available on the access road off Chester Road.
  • Toilets are available at Herrington Country Park.
  • Prizes will be presented in The Grey Horse, Penshaw Village at approximately 21:00 hrs.
  • Running Numbers will be issued on race day.
  • Running Numbers must be worn on the front of your vest and must not be mutilated or folded.
  • Headphones and musical devices should not be worn.
  • The Finish: Having finished please keep moving in the same order you crossed the line. Please ensure your number is clearly visible.
  • Results will be on view in The Grey Horse public house shortly after the conclusion of races.
  • Results will also be posted on the Sunderland Harriers Website.

Start & Assembly Area

In the field at the foot of the Monument adjacent to the accesss road. All participants should be at this point no later than five minutes before the start of their race.


Changing Accommodation

No changing facilities will be available. The organisers will accept no liability for loss of, or damage to, competitors' property.
