NORTH EASTERN HARRIER LEAGUE SUFFERED ITS SECOND POSTPONEMENT

Sunderland Harrier Liam Taylor claimed his fourth win of the year in the Run Hexham 10k on Sunday.

In what was a neck and neck tussle with Gateshead Harriers inform Conrad Franks, the Springwell athlete got the verdict by just one second in winning in 33.03.

This comes on top of his wins in the Kielder 10k, the Tynedale Harriers Pie and Peas 10k, The Prudoe Miners’ Run 5 miler and the Sunshine 5k at Newcastle.

North Eastern Harrier League Suffered Its Second Postponement.

Add to that his second place finishers in the Sunderland City 10k, The Billingham Ray Harrison Memorial 10k, The Run Dalton Park Winter 10k, The Run Valentines 10k, and you can see he is having a good year.

His PB for 10k of 31.50 was set way back in 2011 when he finished fourth in the Darlington 10k. This, surprisingly, is the only time he has been under 32 minutes.

There are suggestions that he will beat the mark when he contests the Heaton Harriers Memorial 10k on Sunday, November 10, at Newcastle’s Town Moor, if conditions allow.

But his biggest challenge of the year will come when he makes his debut in the North Eastern Counties Cross Country Championships at Alnwick on Saturday, December 14.The 12km race is the first opportunity for athletes to show their form before county selection for the Inter Counties Championships at Loughborough on Saturday March 9.

Washington’s Over-40 Tim Jones finished seventh (36.37) at Hexham and second in his category and Sunderland Harrier Over-55 Ed Sweeney finished 24th  and second in his category (40.43)
Former Sunderland Harrier Brian Bewick’s build-up for Smiling Coast International Marathon in Gambia on January 16 is going well. He won the Run Fit Hartlepool 10k Trail Race on Sunday to add to his triumph in the Lambton Estates Trail Half Marathon in September.

The Over-50 won the race in 48.30 to beat second placed Jon Dixon (48.45), Bewick’s training pal, Sunderland Harrier Steve Gordon was fourth in 52.15.

Sunderland Harrier Over-40 Jacqueline Etherington finished sixth overall (40.06) and first woman when competing for her Scottish club Cambuslang in the Jedburgh 10k.

The North Eastern Harrier League suffered their second postponement of the season when the Lambton Estates promotion a week last Saturday was called off through flooding of the car park.

This is the second of three fixtures that has been forced to call the event off for the same reason. This follows the Druridge Bay car park flooding on October 6.

Only the Wrekenton fixture so far has gone ahead and officials are trying to find a place in the cramped fixture list to accommodate the lost promotions. The next of the six fixtures will be held at Aykley Heads on Saturday 23rd of November.
