TWO GOLD MEDALS FOR DURHAM IN ENGLISH SCHOOLS’ CHAMPIONSHIP

Durham had a successful English Schools’ Championship at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

The County won two gold medals and a bronze in the competition now given the name the Schools Olympics, being the fourth largest athletics event in the world.

Former Chester-le-Street athlete Jack Halpin, now with Gateshead, won the Junior Boys’ (under-15) shot with a putt of 14.66m. He had finished fourth last year with 13.22.

Two Gold Medals For Durham In English Schools’ Championship.

Daniel Joyce was the other gold medallist, retaining his Inters (under-17) 800m title in 1min 54.65sec.

Durham’s bronze medal was won by Amelia Bateman in the high jump, finishing third on countback with a height of 1.78.

Houghton Harrier Will Bellamy was fourth in the Inters’ 3000m in a personal best of 8.47.42 in a race won by Wallsend Harrier Sam Charlton (8.34.15).....
