Glynn Bathgate, a Sunderland Harriers’ vice president for many years, has died at the age of 78.
He was a keen Great North Run and London Marathon runner, raising thousands of pounds for charity before injuries took their toll.
Glynn attended Barnes School and his athletic prowess was noticed at an early age by winning the schools’ Victor Ludorum Shield in the 1950s.
He went on to open his own butcher’s shop in Ormonde Street and was a St Gabriels scout master and church member.
He spent much of his life raising funds for charity and he was invited to the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace in acknowledgement of this.
Glynn's funeral will be on the 12th March at 11.30am at St. Gabriel’s church.
