MEDAL SUCCESS AT THE NORTH EAST INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

SUNDERLAND Harriers enjoyed a successful weekend at this year's North East Indoor Championships at Gateshead, winning medals in every event the club entered.

The four athletes who took part in the NECAA Championships came home with four gold, one silver and two bronze medals, securing a number of personal best performances and a championship record along the way.

It's been nearly four years since Jordan Beavers took part in a championship long jump competition. But after a practice run at last week's North East Grand Prix, where he jumped a personal best of 5.88m, he went on to secure silver at the Championships with an even better jump of 6.06m - a leap which places him in the top 50 in the country for his age group.

Jordan then went on to take bronze in the U20 triple jump, with a personal best jump of 11.48m.
His gold medal came on the second day of the Championships, winning the U20 60m sprint in a time of 7.45 seconds, beating Myles Murray of Middlesbrough Athletic Club (Mandale) into second place.

Also securing a gold medal on the first day of the Championships was Declan Murray, who won the U20 pole vault.
His jump of 3.70m was just 1cm short of his personal best, which he secured earlier this month when he won at Vault London, Carshalton. Declan is now ranked 33rd in the country for his age and 90th overall for his pole vault efforts indoors this year.

Alix Waites took the bronze medal in the senior women's 60m with a time of 8.42 seconds, with just one hundredth of a second separating her from second placed Laura Mole, of North Shields Polytechnic Club.

Anna Harris won the W45 long jump, setting a Championship record for the age group with her leap of 4.51m. She also won the Masters women's 60m.

Editor's note - Anna wrote this article in her normal self-effacing manner; it should be noted that she only missed the Championship age group record for her 60m by 0.02 seconds.
