LADIES DAY AT THE RACECOURSE

Ladies Day at the Racecourse.
A very cold, dry and bright day greeted the Ladies teams contesting the North-East Counties Athletics Association cross country championships held at Redcar Racecourse on Saturday. The flat winding course was firm underfoot as the under 20/17-year-old team of Jess Fox, Sarah Knight, Eve Quinn and new recruit Hannah Wight lined up for the combined age group championships. After the first short lap, Jess who had just flown in the day before from her American University led the Harriers team through followed by, Sarah, Eve and Hannah. The team worked hard and finished the second lap in the same order, Jess finishing the race in 6th Sarah 12th, Eve 19th, and Hannah 27th to claim a well-deserved silver medal, 4 points behind Gold medallists Darlington and 4 ahead of third placed Birtley.

A great day for the Ladies got even better when the senior team of Alice Smith, Vicky Haswell, Nikki Woodward and Vikki Cotton won he first ever Sunderland Harriers Women Team medals at these championships. Led home by prolific racer Alice ably supported with excellent team running from Vicky, Nikki and Vikki and fuelled by the determination to better their last 2 performances at these championships of 4th and 16th the team finished a fantastic 3rd to secure the bronze medals.

The Harriers also had Lydia and Evie in the under 15 category, Evie finishing 21st in 17.11 and Lydia 31st in 18.02. . Well done girls it really was Ladies Day!!
